    Who You Help

Chadd’s Story – Team Canada’s Future Para Hockey Star

Chadd is a sledge hockey FANatic and idolizes the men’s Team Canada para hockey team. Living with hydrocephalus, a neural tube defect that affects his lower body, sledge hockey has been a sport that suits his outgoing personality, need for speed, and his abilities. With the help of the Sunshine Foundation, Chadd was able to meet all the team players joined the team for practice, and had the honour of carrying the Canadian flag onto the ice during the National anthem before he watched them play against Korea and Team USA.

Daithi’s Story – Bringing the Park to a Young Dreamer’s Own Backyard

Just like many kids, Daithi loves to play at the park. He dreamed of spending all day sliding down the slides, soaring high on the swings, and climbing around on the equipment. But, unlike most kids, a number of serious health concerns meant Daithi was rarely allowed to enjoy those simple childhood pleasures. Due to his condition, Daithi isn’t able to play with the other kids at the local park because his risk for infection is too high. In 2017, Daithi’s dream came true when he was presented with his Sunshine Dream of playground equipment, custom made for him, turning his backyard into his very own park that he could play in whenever he wanted.

Jalee’s Story – Boy Band Changes Jalee’s Life

Just as Jalee was entering high school, challenges associated with her muscular dystrophy began to worsen. She was experiencing a lot of pain and muscle weakness and required surgery every year. This took a toll on her both physically, mentally, and socially, but One Direction was always there for her. Jalee’s Sunshine Dream came in 2018, when she traveled from Sudbury, ON for a meet-and-greet with Niall Horan at his concert in Toronto. Niall spoke face-to-face with Jalee, took a photo with her, and then the handsome Irish heartthrob bent down on one knee and signed her AFO braces. This was the very moment she felt a change in her life. “Signing my leg brace was a huge thing for me. Before, I’d feel upset and insecure when people would point at my leg brace. But now I’m proud to show it off.”
